The folks behind News360, the news aggregation app for iOS, have just announced that the service is going international with three new “editions” for Britain, Australia, and Canada. The change has been applied in News360's updated iOS application, which launched in the App Store earlier today.

If you're not familiar with News360, the free news reader provides users with a tailored selection of articles and blog posts from around the Web. It promises to “learn” what users enjoy reading, and in doing so the app gradually refines the reading list it offers iOS device users over time. News360 launched in 2011, and several updates enhancing the app and adding universal support have surfaced over the last few years.

Today's update bumps the app up to version 3.5, and it brings all-new “News360 International Editions” for Britain, Australia, and Canada. The change means users in the three countries will begin seeing local sources appear more often in their Home feed, delivering more appropriate location-based news.

In an email that reached our inbox recently, News360 explains:

You’ll probably see the biggest difference in stories coming in from your Top Stories, Politics, Sports and Business categories, showing more stories from Downing Street instead of the White House, and Cricket scores instead of the NFL, but other topics will change subtly as well to favor local sources. All of your personalization settings and preferences will remain and News360 will continue to learn, no matter what edition you’re using.

News360 promises to add more editions over time, ultimately providing an even more personalized content delivery service for its 800,000+ users which live outside of the United States.

For now, however, News360 users in Britain, Australia, and Canada can access the service's International Editions by updating their application to version 3.5. Upon updating, you'll be prompted to select an edition, and this can be configured from within the Settings app, too.

As mentioned, News360 can be downloaded in the App Store free of charge, and it's optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Devious Dungeon by Ravenous Games Inc. icon

Devious Dungeon ($0.99) by Ravenous Games Inc. is the latest action platformer from the guys that brought you iOS classics like League of Evil and Random Heroes. If you enjoyed these titles, but want a dash of RPG mixed in with randomly generated dungeons, then you will get a kick out of Devious Dungeons.

With all of the great puzzle games that have come out as of late, it’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed a good platformer. I’m not saying that this is a bad thing, but having a little variety in life is a good thing. So when I heard that Ravenous Games is releasing a new platformer, I got pretty excited. I mean, how can anyone not like their action platformer offerings ever since the original League of Evil?

Devious Dungeon by Ravenous Games Inc. screenshot

Following their traditional formula, Devious Dungeons is beautifully designed with smooth 16-bit graphics. If you grew up on the old-school consoles, then these visuals are definitely welcome. Everything is colorful and vibrant, and there’s no loss of detail, even with the pixelation. The animation, for the most part, is smooth, though I did experience some lagging issues on my iPhone 5s. It’s not game breaking though, just a little annoying. Devious Dungeons also features an adventurous soundtrack to get you in the spirit of trudging through the randomly generated dungeons and slashing your foes into bits.

The game starts out with a short little background, revealing that there is are catacombs underneath the kingdom where a king sits on his throne, being entertained by some not-so-great jesters. Of course, being catacombs and all, there are some evil creatures that lurk beneath, and the king is in search of a true champion to eliminate all threats. That champion is you, or at least it will be once you defeat everything.

After you get through the brief intro, you’ll find yourself in the King’s Court, where he is just sitting in his throne, not pleased with the current jesters. You can purchase items with your coins from Olaf, ranging from weapons to armor to rings and amulets. The Court is where you resurrect from as well, so when you die, it’s recommended to stock up before entering the dungeons again.

There are five different areas of the catacombs for you to journey through, and each will have 10 levels and then a boss battle. Unlike other games though, you don’t have a checkpoint at each level — instead, you get a save point every three levels, so this adds a layer of difficulty that more hardcore gamers can probably appreciate. When you get past three levels at a time, you are able to jump to the checkpoint level, rather than go through everything from the beginning (although you can still do this if you want to).

The fun thing about Devious Dungeon is the fact that all of these levels are randomly generated, similar to a rogue-like game. However, it’s not a true rogue-like experience, since you don’t have to worry about permanent death for your character. Think of Devious Dungeons as a half rogue-like game. So even if you go back and replay levels that you’ve already cleared, it will never be the same experience.

The levels will consist of the goal of finding the key to open the door to the next floor. In order to do this, you will need to get through all of the creatures that are swarming the catacombs, as well as hazards, making sure that you don’t die along the way. If you ever get lost, you can access a map to see where your position is, and where the portal is. More parts of the map will be uncovered as you discover them.

The controls are done well and responsive. Your standard movement controls are on the bottom left, and you have the A and B buttons on the bottom right. To jump, just tap on A, or hold it down for a longer jump. The A button can also be held down to go down platforms, though I would have preferred a different button (perhaps on the movement side) for this, as it is annoying to have to jump first, and then fall through platforms. The B button is to attack, and you can either repeatedly tap it or just hold it down to continuously flail your weapon around.

Devious Dungeon by Ravenous Games Inc. screenshot

While the controls work, I did find myself touching the wrong arrow for movement at times, which was annoying. I was hoping that you could customize the controls like you could in Mikey Shorts, but it doesn’t seem like you can. Maybe the developers can consider adding that ability in the future, but in the meantime, I suppose the solution is just to get used to the controls more.

As I mentioned earlier, I did experience some lag when playing. I noticed some slight choppiness in the animation when running around, and even sometimes when I hit enemies or the objects in the dungeon (for coins and life potions). Hopefully the game gets optimized for smoother performance in the future.

When you defeat enemies, you will earn experience points, and you can see your progress with the bar at the top. When you level up, you get one attribute point that you can choose to put into strength, stamina, or dexterity (affects critical hit rate). Leveling up is not hard to do quickly if you go through every level and make sure there are no more enemies standing.

The coins you earn can be used in Olaf’s shop. While his main place to set up shop is the Court, sometimes you will find him between checkpoints in the dungeon. He will have weapons, armor, amulets, and rings for you to increase your stats with.

Unfortunately, while the game does have a lot of loot to get, you have to get them all through the shop, not really from the dungeons. And the most annoying part is that you have to buy the next available item in order to unlock the next one, and you have to repeat this over and over in order to obtain the best gear. And when you really think about that, there is a lot of grinding involved in the game, which makes it feel repetitive over time. I would have preferred if all of the items for each category were available right away, and I could just save up for the really expensive ones over time, rather than spend my coins on something I’m just going to replace when I have more coins.

To keep things fresh, there are various missions that are given to you, and when you complete them, you’ll get more coins to spend. Of course, if you’re running low, but really need that ultimate weapon or armor, you can get more coins via in-app purchases. I’m not a big fan of paid games having IAPs, but that’s really there just for those who want to speed things up. There is also Game Center integration for achievements and iCloud game save syncing, so you can pick up where you left off across multiple devices.

I’m enjoying Devious Dungeons so far, but I’m not liking the repetitive gameplay. Currently, there is only one character, a brawler type, and you can’t unlock different types of classes or even use magic. I would like to see more character types and the ability to cast spells and use special skills in the future, so I hope that Ravenous Games considers this. Plus, there should be more loot found in the dungeons themselves, rather than having to buy them, and all items should be available from the get-go, instead of having to purchase the one before it to unlock it.

If you’re looking for an action platformer with a bit of rogue-like RPG elements in it, then check out Devious Dungeons. Just be warned — it can be a little repetitive at the moment.

You can get Devious Dungeons in the App Store as a universal download for $0.99.

The official app for the Google+ social network has just been updated with the addition of three new features.

First up, version 4.6.2 allows users to explore specific topics directly from the What’s Hot stream in the app.

Users can also adjust location reporting and history settings from the app instead of the site.

Finally, along with additional bug fixes and performance improvements, community moderators can pin posts to the top of a community stream to make it easier to see.

A universal app designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini, Google+ can be downloaded now on the App Store for free.

Before today’s update, the last major revision to the social networking app arrived back in November. Version 4.6.0 brought full-resolution automatic backup of photos and videos, a new Locations view, an inline translation of posts and comments, and a revamped notification tray.

Ever Imagine What A Nintendo iOS Game Might Look Like?

BY Brent Dirks on Fri March 07th, 2014 angry birds candy crush doodle jump flappy bird fruit ninja nintendo temple run

Despite the rumors last month, Nintendo games aren’t making the move to iOS devices anytime soon. At best, fans of the ailing platform should expect so-called service apps that will better communicate news about the company.

But the hyper-caffeinated folks at RedBull have offered six hysterical takes on some hypothetical Nintendo mobile gaming titles.

Mario may have won the first round, but everyone’s favorite gorilla is back for his revenge as he is out to ruin the plumber’s life with some Angry Birds-like fun.

This one is easily my favorite. Instead of blasting those crafty ducks with the NES Zapper, you can use your fingers just like a certain fruit-slashing game.

Luigi’s top-notch skill is tested in this endless (and doodle-like) game.

Link would helm this Temple Run-like title as he sprints, and sprints some more, to save the princess.

This one is a natural, isn’t it? Since the mega-hit “borrowed” the pipes from Mario’s world, our plumber gets revenge and sees how far he can fly with the Tanooki suit..

Instead of Candy Crush Saga, how about Dr Mario instead? This game reimagines the falling block title with some elements from the popular matching game.

The Boom itself was released last year and features a 360-degree sound profile, a water and stain resistant skin, and up to 15 hours of battery life. You can read our complete review here.

A very limited-edition run of the speaker can be purchased for $199.99 directly from UE’s site now.

The newest products from Misfit Wearables are accessories for the company’s Shine activity tracker. Both the Classic T-Shirt and Sport Socks have a custom-designed pocket to fit the small device while working out or on a run. The T-shirt, made with 100 percent fade resistant cotton, offers a gender-specific fit and comes in black, white, gray, navy, or teal. The socks are made with a lightweight and breathable cotton blend.

You can snag a two-pack of the socks for $29.99 and a T-shirt for $24.99, directly from Misfit’s site. The company is also offering larger packs of both products.

I reviewed the tracker itself last year, and really enjoyed the beautiful hardware design and easy-to-use app.

Paint Your Photos Into Artistic Masterpieces With Brushstroke

Brushstroke by Code Organa icon

Brushstroke ($2.99) by Code Organa is a photo editing app that will transform your gorgeous photography into beautiful paintings. If you enjoy other artistic photo apps like Waterlogue and Popsicolor, then you will get a kick out of Brushstroke.

I always had an interest in photography, but it became easier than ever before for me to snap photos all the time thanks to the iPhone. I may have slacked off a bit in the past few months, but I have recently began picking it back up again. While it’s fun to tweak my images until it’s perfect to me, it’s also fun to do some other creative things with it, like turn it into a painting. That’s why I have a collection of several artsy apps on my iPhone, and I’m glad to have discovered Brushstroke.

Brushstroke by Code Organa screenshot

The design of Brushstroke is simple, yet elegant, and incredibly intuitive, as I found it quite easy to figure my way around without any help. All of the elements that you can play around with for your image are clearly labeled, and the various styles you can apply are organized neatly into their own groups, so you can get a general idea of what type of painting style it will fall into.

The main screen is one of the better views I’ve seen for a photo app, as it only has two icons for your photo import method. There’s the standard camera icon for when you want to take a photo directly with the app, and the Camera Roll import features a small thumbnail icon of the latest image you saved. Tapping on it will automatically bring up that image, and you can crop it as you please. You can stick with the original image, or crop it into square format if it isn’t already. Regardless, end results will always have a black border around them to emphasize the painting.

When you have your image, there are four things that you can tinker with: Paint, Color, Canvas, and Adjustments. The “a” button is actually for you to sign your name for a watermark to go on all of your paintings made with the app, and you can choose from five colors to have it show up best on the image.

Paint is the main part of the app, and it’s where you apply the artsy painting filter to transform your photo. Your choices are lined up in a ribbon along the bottom, and they are all separated into seven different groups, with a good variety of choices in each. Tapping on one of them will apply it instantly on your image, so you can go through quite a few of them in a matter of seconds.

Unlike other apps like Waterlogue, Brushstroke will just apply the painting filter to your image, but it won’t do anything fancy like show you the painting be created. I actually like this a bit more, because it saves time. However, if you prefer to see the entire painting process rendered digitally, then I recommend Waterlogue for that. I do wish that Brushstroke allowed users to adjust the intensity of the painting style they chose, as it would be nice to have some customization.

Color would be the next step, and it makes a bit difference on the painting. Just like Paint, these are organized into groups, and the thumbnails on these give you a better preview of what it will look like on your picture. Still, you can quickly see how it looks on the image just by selecting them, because it only takes less than a second to apply.

Canvases will change the texture of your image. These are organized into three groups: Canvas, Paper, and Surfaces. For more subtle looks, the Canvases are the way to go. If you want to add some color, then choose Papers. For a mix of both, with natural color, then Surfaces is a good choice with Burlap and Wood.

The Adjustments is pretty much your basic photo adjustments. You can change the overall brightness, contrast, saturation, density, exposure, shadows, highlights, and temperature. With any of these, you change the amount by swiping your finger on the image. I found the control for this to be very accurate, as it’s easy to get the number/amount you want. If only it could be this easy for some other photo editing apps …

When you’re done creating your masterpiece, the next step is to save and share. Your painting will get a nice, black border so that the colors stand out much more, and your watermark will be in the bottom right corner. Your image can be saved to the Camera Roll, or you can share it through Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, email, or Message. You can even get your work as an actual painting through CanvasPop, placing your order directly through Brushstroke. The border color can be changed by swiping left and right, and different frames for your print can be chosen when in the “Ship” section.

I’ve been thoroughly enjoying Brushstroke, as it gives users a clean and intuitive interface to work with. The painting styles are quite beautiful, and the touch of colors you can add to it are nice. I also really love how fast the app renders everything, so you don’t need to wait around a while to see your photo be transformed into art. If anything, I think it would be nice if users could adjust the intensity of the paint effect, but the app is still fantastic without this.
